Shiba Inu are very independent in nature.
What is a Shiba Inu?
Shiba Inu are very independent in nature and want to investigate anything going on, but they have a neat disposition and some cat-like ways. In fact, they are very clean dogs.
They are a Japanese dog breed for hunting small game, boars and bears. They were nearly wiped out during World War Two. After the war the Japanese gathered the remaining ones from the remote countryside and started breeding programs to establish the Shiba Breed as we know it today.
Are Shiba Inu Good Family Dogs? Are Shiba Inus Good with Other Dogs?
Shiba Inus are a great family member addition, especially for apartment living or small yard space. While Shiba Inus are very active as puppies, they do mellow some as they get older but they are still energetic.
A dog that’s good with other dogs can depend on how they are socialized-trained as puppies. Socialization at an early age and hands on is very important for Shiba Inus to adjust and be ready to join their new family. We strive to make sure our Shiba Inu puppies experience lots of socialization with humans and other dogs. Our socialization program and the way our Shiba Inus are raised here at Monark Puppies has them ready to meet their new family members, whether humans or animals.
How Big Does a Shiba Inu Get? Do Shiba Inus Shed?
The size of a typical Shiba is 13.5 to 15.5 inches for females and 14.5 to 16.5 inches for males (measured at the withers). They do shed a lot of hair around twice a year. It lasts about 2 weeks, then they have a beautiful hair coat again.
How Long Do Shiba Inus Live?
Experts say the average lifespan of a Shiba Inu is around 12-15 years. However, we’ve had some who live longer too.
